Arborist Consultation & Risk Assessment in McAllen
Sometimes what you need is not a truck and a chipper — it's a pair of experienced eyes and a piece of paper. An hour with someone who has spent decades watching Valley trees succeed, fail, lean, split, and surprise people can be worth more than any single job. That's the consultation: a structured, documented read on your trees, in plain English, that you can act on or take to whoever needs it.
What a Consultation Includes
- Full visual inspection of the tree or trees in question — canopy density and dieback, union structure, bark condition, fungal bodies (the Valley's conks and brackets say a lot), and anything the species and site suggest we should check.
- Structural evaluation. Trunk sounding for hollows and decay, lean analysis against root-plate movement, co-dominant fork review, and a canopy weight assessment — the same checks we run before any technical removal, documented instead of just observed.
- Species and site context. A queen palm in Mission and an anacua in north McAllen fail differently. We grade risk against what the tree actually is and what Valley conditions actually do to it — including freeze history, irrigation effects on root plates, and storm exposure.
- A written report. Same week, typically: findings, risk level per tree in plain terms, what we'd do if it were our house, and what can safely wait. Written so a buyer, adjuster, board member, or builder can read it without a phone call to us.
When McAllen Calls Us for This
- Buying or selling a home. A mature ebony leaning over the master bedroom is a negotiation item — a documented assessment turns "the tree looks scary" into a number on paper. We work with buyers, sellers, and agents all season.
- Insurance questions after a storm. Companies and adjusters ask for documentation of pre-existing condition vs. storm damage. Our post-event reports describe what we see and what we believe caused it, with photos.
- Second opinions. A door-knocker told your neighbor her palm "must come out today" for a suspiciously round number. We love these calls. Frequently the answer is a trim and a monitoring plan — and we'll happily be the bad-news bearer when it genuinely isn't.
- HOA and neighbor disputes. Branches, roots, and fence-line encroachment generate more bad blood in the Valley than they should. A neutral written assessment gives both sides something calmer than opinion to work from.
- Construction planning. Trenching, additions, and grade changes near mature trees deserve a plan before the excavator arrives. We advise on protection zones and which trees are realistically saveable — and what to plant when one isn't.
Our Honest Limits
⚠️ We'll tell you what we are and aren't. This is a field assessment by an experienced Valley tree crew — not a laboratory diagnosis and not a legal appraisal. If your situation needs an ISA-certified consulting arborist with credential letters, formal tree appraisal for litigation, or plant-pathology lab work (beyond what Texas A&M AgriLife Extension offers), we'll say so and point you there rather than sell you a document dressed up as one. And when the honest answer is "this tree is fine, spend your money elsewhere," that's the answer you'll get — we've talked people out of removals more than once, and we'd do it again tomorrow.
Pricing
Consultations are a flat fee by scope — most single-residence assessments run $150–$350, and the fee is credited toward the work if you hire us to do what the report recommends. Multi-tree properties, commercial sites, and pre-construction reviews are quoted on scope. Book through the form below or mention it when you call (956) 555-0110.
